Established in 1985 in the Marlborough region of New Zealand, Cloudy Bay was one of the first wineries in the country to export to the U.S., and one of the first to part ways with traditional methods of production. While most of the world’s wine drinkers were accustomed to the restrained French style, Cloudy Bay began creating a new type of wine, full of acidity, minerality, and that hallmark grapefruit flavor that we now associate with New Zealand Sauv Blancs. Their success created a platform for other wineries to begin exportation in the 1990s, but through it all Cloudy Bay has maintained their quality and reputation as a top producer.
The 2017 Cloudy Bay is an excellent choice for a special occasion. Here you will find the grapefruit and stoniness one might expect, but so much more. This wine carries an elegance and refinement that sets it apart from other NZ bottles. Kaffir lime, fresh herbs, and pineapple give way to a long finish ultimately creating a delicious sip from beginning to end.
