Forge Cellars Classique Dry Riesling 2016

Choosing a wine appropriate for St. Patrick’s day- a holiday known for macro beer and green food dye- takes some mental acrobatics. So for this special day we’ve got our eye on bottle we’ve been loving of late, and which also pairs nicely with an Irish themed cheese platter.

This is only our second Riesling rec, and while we love and appreciate this grape, it can be a difficult one for some to approach. Luckily, with Forge Cellars, you’re in good hands.

Curious to find out what others thought of this wine, on a recent Friday night, and without disclosing the varietal, we asked a few friends to taste. Could it be an unoaked Chardonnay? It’s heft, not usually found in Riesling, drove some to this conclusion. How about Albarino? Others guessed in this direction due to it’s delicateness and crisp character. With notes of baked apples, citrus, and pear, you’re sure to find it delicious, and super food friendly.

Pleasant companion for: Cheese and charcuterie, Springtime fare such as asparagus, mushrooms, peas, potatoes, cabbage, soups, and artichokes, poultry and seafood, light meats, sausages, salads, pasta and pizza.
