We love Spanish wines for so many reasons- they’re approachable, easy drinking, and often have a great value-for-quality ratio. For Father’s Day we picked a wine that dad can tuck into out on the patio, one that’s not too heavy or overwhelming for a balmy June afternoon. Sure there are some “big” Spanish reds out there, but the Mencia grape, while structured and with a depth of character, is super food friendly and a great summer sipper.
Fraga do Corvo produces an excellent bottle. Youthful yet complex (just like dad? ) with soft tannins and so much to savor. There is a smooth acidity, like a creamy and sweet balsamic, which is complimented by the clove, vanilla and black pepper on the palate. Satisfying all the way through to the finish, with it’s woodsy back notes, the dad in your life is sure to be pleased.
Pleasant companion for: aged cheeses, charcuterie, poultry, grilled or roasted meats, eggplant, mushrooms, potatoes and other hearty vegetables, pizza and pasta, Tapas, grain salads, hearty fish steaks.
Try with our Dad’s Mac N Cheese.
