Obsidian Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon ’15

A simply delicious Cabernet. In this bottle you’ll discover a top quality wine ringing up well below superstar Napa Cab prices. Its distinctive flavor profile derives from two sources: an unexpected minerality from the obsidian rock-filled soil where the grapes are grown, and delicate spiced notes of mocha and cinnamon from the Hungarian oak in which it is aged. It has an unctuous mouthfeel, soft and juicy, with deep plum and blackberry on the palate.

Sure there are tannins here, but let it breathe a bit and they’ll soften up, providing the structure and balance to match whatever you’re throwing on the grill. As with most bold and higher-alcohol Cabs, this one benefits from rich, beefy foods. Try roasted potatoes, eggplant caponata, blue cheese, and of course red meat. Happy Dad’s day!

Pleasant companion for: grilled meats, hearty grilled vegetables, roasted root vegetables, bold cheeses, figs (especially stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in prosciutto), olives, wild mushrooms
