Scaia ’16

Scaia, a medium-bodied, crisp white from the Veneto region in Italy, is a skillful combination of two white grapes, Garganega and Chardonnay. The Garganega grape, used primarily in the wines from the Italian appellation, Soave, does not enjoy a high reputation and is often considered flawed and unbalanced. Blended with the Chardonnay grape, however, its characteristic tartness is offset by the creamy Chardonnay. In turn, minerality and citrus notes from the Garganega brings vibrancy to the Chard. It works, and it works beautifully! You’ll keep coming back to this expertly crafted bottle.

This wine drinks perfectly well all on its own. But that doesn’t mean Scaia won’t pair excellently with a variety of tasty food. Italian dishes are an obvious match made in heaven, including risottos, pastas, fish, grilled eggplant, zucchini and peppers, and Italian cheeses and meats. But also try it out with other Mediterranean-style plates or simply prepared vegetables and light meats.

Pleasant companion for: grilled shrimp and shellfish, aged cheeses, pasta, grilled or roasted vegetables, salads, white meats, fish beans and legumes.

Try it with our Green Salad with Strawberries & Marcona Almonds.
